2025 Sleep Out for Homelessness – Tuesday 12 August

EVERY year in the coldest months, architects, students and academics
brace the elements to sleep rough to raise funds and awareness for Second Chance’s work assisting at-risk women and children.

This year is the 11th annual Sleepout which so far has raised an incredible $418,000.

IT’S not every day we can do something that is meaningful and impactful to help our community doing it tough through no fault of their own. Setting up a team, raising money and sleeping a bit rough one night to support the work of Second Chance Programme is just that action we can take to help shift the dial for women and children seeking a pathway to safe and secure housing.

There are a lot of sleepout campaigns out there so why should you join or support this one? Second Chance is a volunteer grassroots organisation that, for the past 25 years, has helped all women in all kinds of circumstances – support for no-income women in Australia without a Centrelink safety net, support for indigenous mothers, women escaping violence, women in the regions, and older women bringing their life back together.

This no-woman-left-behind approach helps alleviate child poverty and provides dignity and hope for a future where we can live our best lives. Second Chance does not pay wages and overheads are extremely low. Second Chance is unlike most other charities – we know where the money goes: funds are targeted, impactful, responsive to demand, widely distributed, and carefully spent.

The Sleepout for Homelessness campaign has been championed by the Queensland architectural and design community for over 14 years – for this Second Chance is extremely grateful. We hope that you can help support the practices and individuals stepping up to help raise funds and in turn make a difference to so many lives in our community.

Our actions and contributions help make the journey to a safe and secure place for many women and children a reality – and that is something we all can achieve. We have a new Sleepout venue – Third Space Collective (café/roaster) and are very excited.
